1920s antique LUDWIG SNARE DRUM vintage 14X4 8-LUG eight ALL METAL 2 PIECE SHELL
For sale is an antique Ludwig Snare Drum that I think is from the early 1920s? The 2 piece all metal shell measures about 14" by 4" and I think is nickel plated brass. It has 8 lugs, a Patent Pending strainer, and the snares across the bottom appear to be made of animal gut! The drum is in good shape with normal wear and patina, as pictured. It has not been polished so you can do so too taste.
This would be a great drum to actually use since it does have some noticeable wear. Most notably the top rim/hoop has some minor'dings' and some pitting/oxidation in areas with the most intense area of that shown close-up in the very last picture. I removed the rims so that you can see the inside of the shell and in doing so I noticed that some of the tension rods/screws were easy to tighten/loosen while others provided more resistance. The shell has some lighter pitting and oxidation and just a few very minor'dings' here-n-there. The bottom hoop/rim has some light pitting/oxidation.
The top head looks period but does have holes so it will need to be replaced. The bottom head also looks period and appears to be in very nice shape and might be made of animal hide?
