Fender Princeton Blackface Vintage Tube Amp 1966 - Near Mint. This amp has been listed locally. This is an amazing amp. It is 99% totally original.
It has the classic mid-60's Fender clarity, crunch and chime. It is in super clean condition, has been professionally serviced and I gave it a lot of TLC to bring out it's classic beauty and sound. It has the premium complement of Vintage tubes (Mullard, RCA and Telefunken) and a premium Vintage speaker Made in the USA, Chicago produced Jensen C10N , the one with the huge magnet! Mike Campbell, guitarist from the Heartbreakers, is known for using vintage 60s Princeton Blackface amps in his arsenal of low watt vintage amps that he used live with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. To quote his guitar tech, Steve Chinner Winstead: The Princeton The bottom line is about tone.
Nothing matters other than tone. Guitars, amps, it's all about tone. The Condition: There are some very minor tolex scuffs and bumps as can be seen in the photos. The tolex is very nice. The faceplate and grill are in great shape. The grill cloth has a slightly uneven browning discoloration as you can see. The control knobs have the correct set screw placement below the number 10.
The Components: The original, vintage, premium tubes. From left to right as on the tube chart: Rectifier Tube: Mullard GZ34 / 5AR4 Power Tubes: Two - RCA 6V6 GTA Pre-Amp Tube: Telefunken ECC83 / 12AX7 Pre-Amp Tube: RCA 7025.
The speaker: Fender branded Jensen USA made C10N. This is a wonderful combination of the best tubes and speaker available at the time. The amp still retains the Pre-CBS build quality and component choices. The circuit, AA964 , is the same as the Pre-CBS amps.
The amp recently had a complete servicing by the tube amp tech, Pat, at Main Drag Music in Brooklyn, NY. He did a Full check up, clean all pots, jacks, sockets, change the bias capacitor, hit cold solder joints, test. The only part that was changed was the vibrato bias capacitor. He installed a premium Sprague Atom capacitor. As you can see in one of the photos, the old component is shown as well as the installed replacement and the servicing receipt.
The old component still works but is very, very weak. I will include this old component with the amp. Pat, the amp tech, is very experienced with Fender Princetons. He services Jim Campilongo's Princeton Reverbs on the East Coast. Jim Campilongo is an amazing Telecaster player who plays a vintage'59 Top-loading bridge Telecaster and vintage Princeton Reverbs. This amp is very collectable and is in great shape. If well cared for it will appreciate in value. It is a part of American Rock and Roll music history. In the video: I'm playing an Epiphone ES-335 Pro, Neck pick-up, Vol. The Princeton is set to Vol. I'm here to answer your questions and be helpful.
